What is the process for cleaning the
swimming pool tile?
First the pool is drained usually overnight.
In morning we come in with a machine and blast the calcium off. Once we
are done we apply sealer on the tile to protect it. Then we clean up in
the pool and around the pool. The pool is filled and chemicals added.
Do we need to drain the pool to do a tile clean?
Yes, if you want best results it's always good to empty the pool water.
We can clean the tile without draining the pool water but it's a bit
harder to do since we have to worry about some water splashing on the
tile as we are working. When the calcium is getting wet, it hides the
calcium so there is a possibility that we might miss a spot.
Will tile cleaning get all
the calcium off the tile?
Yes usually all the calcium comes off.
Cleaning the tile, is it
going to hurt the pool tile?
Cleaning tile takes the sheen off the tile, thus is why a
sealer must be applied in order to help protect the tile. Some
tiles are much softer and hence are very hard to work with. Sometimes if
you have bad tile not all of the calcium can be taken off since the tile
can't take the blasting.
What do I need to do to keep
the tile clean after a tile clean of my pool?
Yes A good idea would be to re-apply the sealer every six
months, this will help greatly. Vary the water level of the pool as
often as you can throughout the year. Also consult us, we can put you on
a program where we chemically treat the pool on a regular basis to
prevent the buildup.
Is the calcium going to come
back in my pool?
Usually the calcium will start coming back after some time if
you don't do preventative maintenace as mentioned on this page.
Any other ways to prevent the
calcium buildup?
We can install Impluse 3000 device at the pool equipment to
prevent calcium buildup. This does work, and the unit is about $1000 -
1,200 installed. Also a chemical plan for the pool water can be
administered on a regular basis to prevent the buildup.
How much will it cost to get
my tile cleaned?
Usually tile cleaning starts at $3 a linear foot, so your
average play pool you are looking at $240, and this price includes
sealing the tile.
Can I clean the tile myself?
Yes, you can use pomice stone to clean the tile but warning,
it's very laborious. You may go gung ho, try to tackle the job but soon
the frustration will kick in. Also using chemical cleaner for the
calcium takes many applications and you might not get all of it off.
This too is a dirty job and requires lots of elbow grease.
What should I seal the
pool tile with, and how often should I put sealer on it?
You can buy sealer from the pool store or home depot, but
warning, I haven't found anything that works as good as the stuff I use!
Problem with the other sealers is that if the file has moisture it will
turn white after u apply the sealer. The other type of sealer puts a
heavy film on the tile, thus when you go back to touch up the tile and
clean the calcium at a later time, you will know what I mean, mess!
After you clean an area, you will notices that the whole tile now needs
to be cleaned in order to take that film off. Best thing is to let
us seal the tile, or just call us and we can sell you some of our
sealer. It's so easy to apply by spray can, and it protects and
beautifies at the same time. It's easy!!
What if I have a few broken
tile, or missing tile?
For a small additional fee, we would be happy to set those in
for you and re-grout them. Tile repair is no problem, just have the tile
ready for us when we get there, set them out by the pool.
Above the tile under the pool
decking I have separation, what can be done?
The caulking around the pool that is above the tile line will
separate and crack! Often time this is a problem because the water can
seep under the tile, under the pool decking and cause damage. It is best
to re-seal this area anytime the pool is emptied for service. We
use good material that is designed to take the chemical beating and the
sun etc. We'll do a good job sealing it so that you will prevent
problems in the future. Just let Cool Times know that you have a
need for a bond seal and we'll check it out and take care of it.
